 Open Enrollment

State law provides parents and students who live outside of the Brandon Valley School District an opportunity to apply for enrollment within the District. It also allows resident parents and students an opportunity to apply for enrollment at a school within the District, other than that to which the student has been assigned.

Online Open Enrollment applications for the 2026-2027 school year will be accepted starting December 19, 2025. New applications beyond the 2026-2027 school year are not being accepted at this time. The application portal will open every December for the next school year.

All open enrollment applications that were submitted prior to December 19, 2025 will remain on file.

A separate open enrollment application must be submitted for each child. Applications will be acted upon in the order in which they are received, based on board policy. Open enrollment transfers must occur prior to the last Friday of September during the first semester of any school year, and prior to the last Friday of January during the second semester of any school year.

For grades 7-12, the student transcript or latest report card must be emailed to Jennifer.Swenson@k12.sd.us. Open enrollment applications for grades 7-12 will not be processed without this document.

For athletic eligibility of open enrolled students, contact Bill Freking, Brandon Valley Activities Director, at 605-582-3211 or the SD High School Activities Association.

An application may be withdrawn by the applicant prior to the approval of the request and upon written notification. Once approved by the district, the approved application serves as the applicant's notice of intent to enroll in the Brandon Valley School District and obligates the student to attend school within this district during the school year.

Visit https://brandonvalley.k12.sd.us/transportation/ for information about transportation service options for out of district open enrolled students. In-district open enrolled students are not eligible for transportation services.

Brandon Valley's open enrollment policies can be found online at JECB, JECB-R, and JECC.
