Mikal Simmons

Mikal graduated in 1995 from Brandon Valley High School.

As a running back and linebacker on the football team, Mikal earned three letters and led the Lynx to two regional championships.  He was named All-Conference, All-State, and Elite 45 and set school records for single game rushing yards, single season rushing yards, and yards per carry during his senior campaign.  He helped the Lynx to playoff victories over #1 Yankton and #2 O'Gorman his senior season.

Mikal wrestled at 189 pounds and earned two varsity letters.  As a junior, he was runner-up at regions and placed seventh at the state meet.  He won 33 matches his senior season, where he won the conference, region, and state titles.

On the track, Mikal was a standout sprinter, earning four varsity letters.  He was an integral part of numerous relay teams which placed at conference, region, and state meets.  He was a member of the 400-meter relay team, which set a school record while winning the region meet in that event.  He also placed as an individual at 100 meters, with a fifth place state meet showing his senior season.

Mikal attended SDSU on a football scholarship and earned the starting tailback position as a redshirt freshman.

His favorite Lynx memories include the commitment of his coaches to make him a better athlete - and an even better person - along with playing on the same team as his older brother, Chris.
