Randy Nelson

Randy graduated in 1969 from Brandon Valley High School.

Randy was a four-year letter winner as a fullback and defensive lineman and was named second-team All-State as a senior.  After graduating, he went to Northern State College on scholarship and lettered all four years as a standout defensive tackle.  He was named All-Conference twice, All-District and second team All-American once each while helping his team qualify for the national playoffs two times.  He played in the Mid States Professional Football League for two years and then in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers for part of one season.

He was also a four-year letter winner as a wrestler.  The sport was introduced at BVHS in his freshman year, and Randy was on that original squad.  After two years the sport was formalized, and he won the District twice, the Region once and was runner-up at heavyweight as a senior.  He was the first Brandon Valley wrestler to place at a State Meet.

Randy concluded his athletic career by winning arm wrestling championships in South Dakota and Iowa and placed fifth at the International Super Heavyweight Tournament.
