Mickey Metcalf

Mickey graduated in 1979 from Brandon Valley High School.

 

A basketball and track athlete, Mickey was a playmaker and premier sprinter.  Beginning in the seventh grade, she broke onto the varsity team as a member of relay teams that placed at the Region and State meets.  As an eighth grader, she began to establish herself individually by placing at the Region and State meets in addition to her relay legs.  Over the remainder of her years she won 24 individual championships in Conference, Region and State meets.  Her relay teams won four championships at the Conference and Region levels.

 

Mickey established school and conference records in all three individual sprint events at 100, 200 and 400 meters, which she held for several years.

 

She went on to compete at Augustana College where she set three school records and helped the team to Conference success.

 

Mickey is known for her dedication and work ethic, setting an example by action in the early years of recognized female athletics.
