Lee Magnuson

Lee graduated in 1973 from Brandon Valley High School.

As a four-year letter winner, Lee was a standout hurdler and sprinter on the track and field team.  He won conference titles in his junior and senior seasons in both the low and high hurdle events.  As a junior he placed in the State Meet in both events.  His senior season included a state championship in the low hurdles, while also placing third in the high hurdles and a place-winning relay team.  His low hurdle time was the fastest of all three classes at the state meet.  He set the school record for low hurdles, which stood for nearly thirty years.

On the basketball team, Lee lettered three times and was a two-year starting forward.  He was named All-Conference and Lynx MVP as a senior while averaging thirteen points and seven rebounds per game.

Lee also lettered four years for the cross country team.

He continued his track and field career at USD until injury ended his career.

One of his favorite memories was the State Meet in Mitchell during his senior year, where the cinder track was flooded during the meet by a rain storm.
