Luther Hegland

Mike graduated in 1976 from Brandon Valley High School.

As a four-sport athlete, he earned thirteen letters in football, cross country, basketball and track and field.  In the fall of his Sophomore and Junior years, Mike ran for the cross country team while also playing football.  He was a prominent member of all teams that he was a member of and helped lead teams to many conference team championships.

Mike etched his name on the BVHS Track and Field record board as a middle and long distance specialist, setting the half mile, mile and two mile school records.

After high school, he went to South Dakota State University to pursue his education and competed on the cross country, track and field, and tennis teams.

His favorite Brandon Valley memories include the move from small school to large school status and beating Sioux Falls schools in basketball and football.
