Howard graduated in 1974 from Brandon Valley High School. As a three-sport athlete, Howard was a versatile performer in football, basketball, and track and field. On the football field, he was two-year letter winner and an All-Conference performer as an offensive lineman. Howard was most accomplished as a discus thrower on the track and field team. He lettered two times and was the 1974 State AA runner-up. His 172’ 6” throw set the Brandon Valley school record, which stood for 11 years. After graduation, Howard attended Worthington Junior College, where he was a two-time State Junior College Champion and a National Junior College meet participant both years. He finished third in the nation as a freshman and was national champion as a sophomore, earning him All-American honors Howard is also a member of the Worthington Jr. College and Minnesota State Jr. College Halls of Fame. Howard has continued his interest in football and track and field at Brandon Valley by working every varsity football game on the chain gang and as the head discus judge for state meets. |
